Problems with this lens are occuring when using on a canon 400d the lens came with this cam on ebay. It brings up an err99 communications message when taking photos. Any ideas what the problem is? I've tried cleaning the contacts with a rubber! but no luck?? :|

Presumably the camera is fine with other lenses? Next thing to do is try the lens on another camera and see if you get the same. Local dealer?
That could be an older lens, and compatability problems are quite common with third party lenses, though usually Sigma UK can fix it with a new chip - they're used to it! Don't know about the cost though.

Hi thank you for your quick reply i have tried emailing sigma but they have tried telling me that the particular lens is only compatible with canon film cameras. But the ebay seller quoted that he was using the lens on his 350d which worked fine every time. the lens had not actually been used on the 400d by him but he assumed it would be compatible with the 400d and sold it with it. yes the camera works fine with the standard canon 18-55mm lens and has no problems whatsoever!

Sigma are telling you the truth, the ebay seller would have known it didn't work on his 400D suggest you open a dispute on ebay and get some money back.
I just don't get why if it worked on his 350d why Sigma would be saying that it is only compatible with film canons! But yes I have already spoken to the seller and he has offered a £40 refund on the lens. I just wanted to see first if there was a solution??
