I've just been very kindly given an old EF mount sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 to use on my 40D. It's not an EX model, it's all plastic except for the lens mount (metal). The person who gave it to me used to use it on an EOS-5
It works fine, auto focussing properly, and it takes pictures at f/2.8
But if I try to stop it down at all, I get error 01 (error in communications between camera and lens) as soon as click the shutter, and have to restart the camera. I've tried cleaning to contacts, which hasn't made any difference.
I expect this is because it's an older lens, it has compatibility issues with newer bodies, and need re-chipping to work? I've spent a while trying to find this lens on google, but all I can find are newer EX or f/2.8-4 models.
