Anyone here using the sigma?..If so how does it compare to the nikon, is it worth the extra?

Sorry no I meant the sigma 30mm art vs nikon 35mm 1.8 dx

Does look good Ian..Just trying to decide wether to get this or stump up the extra for the 18-35mm 1.8?..Anyone here had experience with the fast zoom? It seems to get cracking reviews!

It's awesome! I've got one for sale if you're interested (18-35mm, that is)... :naughty:

I would have been but after buying the 85mm and 200-500mm nikons this will be going on the old credit card lol

Haha, fair enough!

I don't have any experience with either of the lenses you've listed, but I can assure if you did decide to stump up the extra for the 18-35mm, you wouldn't be disappointed.

It is a heavy old beast though, but I guess that's a compromise you have to make if you get a f1.8 "zoom".

Cheers Steve..it really does look good! Why are you selling if you dont mind me asking

The 18-35 is the best crop sensor lens I've ever owned!

I believe @minnnt has owned the lenses your interested in. IIRC he used to say, that it was like having a bag of primes when using the 18-35mm Sigma.

Yep I believe so just trying to justify it and convince OH I really need it lol

The 35mm ART is a truly awesome lens but it's big and heavy even on the likes of a D700. The 35mm Nikon is a very nice, not in the same amazing class of the ART, but way smaller and a very good buy. Is it worth the extra ... probably not but the micro-contrast and rendering is kinda Zeiss class and many will pay the premium. It's actually worth seeing if you pick up a 35mm Zeiss used if you don't mind MF. Works really well and keeper ratio I found higher than with AF! I don't know the Sigma zoom, but it really does look like it could be something.

There isn't a 30mm ART as far as I know. There is a 35mm ART 1.4. There is also a crop prime Sigma 30mm 1.4 which is a very nice lens but certainly it has/had a reputation for dodgy AF. I had one and liked it. It's a crop body lens I would have another, but would likely play safer and bag the Nikon 35mm. The ART lenses are a big step up in cost, and the Zeiss are once again.

Here's a few from the 18-35

There is the old Sigma 30mm 1.4
But the New Art version is a very different beast

Well I am torn between the 30mm and the 18-35mm but lots of reviews I have read put the zoom above the prime lens in terms of sharpness and image quality!! Decisions!!

Just arrived!!
Heavier than I thought it would be..lovely build quality though!!Looking forward to trying it out tomorrow.

Nice - it'll sing! :) Enjoy!

As an aside, I'm amazed that we live in an age where you can order something on the internet, and it'll arrive on the very same day!

I hope so! Yeah was looking at reviews this morning decided to order and had the option of same day delivery! crazy

No mate sent back to Amazon for refund.. Well cheesed off as images that were in focus were stunningly sharp

What a shame.
Yep stunning lens awesome build quality but just didnt focus consistantly..I am still thinking of sourcing another as its a lovely lens but dont want to have to spend another £40 on a dock to frustrate me even more by calibrating it.If I spend over £500 on a lens I expect it to work.

I assume the D5500 doesn't have AF adjustment then?
