Sigma 30mm f1.4 advice

I've decided to go for this lens, but my issue now is where to buy from. Ideally I'd love to get a mint condition 2nd hand one with perfect focusing, but that's not going to happen at this rate, so new is my only option.

I'm honestly quite worried about buying one with a focusing issue, so where would I be best buying it from to ensure a speedy swapover if there's an issue for a new one? Digital Rev have the best price by far, but I'm a bit cautious of that due to the fact they are Hong Kong based....

well, if you buy it from Digital Rev you won't have any UK warranty and you'll have to send it back to Japan for service (I was told this when I was sold a grey import lens from an Amazon market place seller).

So, you've got to look at it this way:

1) buy cheap and run the risk of having to send it to Japan for warranty support.

2) buy new from a UK authorised dealer for a few quid more and get piece of mind - my dealings with Sigma UK have been very positive indeed - you get a free 3 year warranty extension too - http://www.sigma-imaging-uk.com/warranty/index.htm

But really, don't worry about the focussing issue. If your lens front/back focusses a little just dial in a bit of micro focus adjustment - you've got a 7D so it will only take a few minutes to do and will save you hassle.

is the price from Honk Kong enough of a saving to ship it back a couple of times (at your own expense) to get a couple of different copies?

I was thinking about importing this lens too as the saving is about £100 over uk prices. After a little searching I came across a few posts in various forums that say sigma will look after the lens if it has proof of purchase and proof of vat being paid. Obviously a HK import will not have vat paid so you run the risk of no warranty, although most reports say they are never asked for proof of vat on a repair, I guess it's the risk you take. I will most likely buy a uk copy when the time comes as the saving isn't worth the hassle if there is a problem.
