Anyone got one of these yet? Done a brief search but couldn't find any specific threads... Got mine this morning (for micro four-thirds, not NEX). Seems to be nice and sharp and a useful focal range, but it's incredibly rattly! Just wondered if anyone else has one, does it rattle a fair amount?

I'm used to lenses (esp. VR ones) having loose components inside, but this feels like the entire lens assembly is moving. I suspected it might be tied in with the focus mechanism, and indeed as soon as it's mounted and the camera switched on, everything tightens up, so I suspect it's not a huge problem, but curious nonetheless :)

As said it seems like a nice lens initially, although slower than my other primes, it seems to be decent VFM at £130 new

Hi, i've got the nex mount version and the rattle is due to the floating element focus system and is documented in the instructions. As you say, once the body is on and power is passed to the lens the elements are aligned.

Cheers

Cheers for that Steve, makes sense... unfortunately I didn't have time to RTFM, but had intended on it when I got home :)

Quite impressed that it came with a padded lens case and proper centre-pinch lens cap too, Olympus and Panasonic really should take note!

No problem. It's been mentioned in a few threads on other forums as well so will be a common question!

The lens is really sharp and is smaller than the 18-55 as well but I'm going to be selling mine in the next few days because I only bought it to use during a wedding I shot a few weeks ago and had my NEX as the second camera. I mainly shoot with manual lenses so will get it listed here :0)

Cheers

I didn't even realise this was out! I heard about it ages ago when it was first announced and then didn't really think about it again.
At £130 it sounds like good value for money and it's definitely a length I'd be interested it.

Hi Mandoo, I'll be listing mine for £120 if you're interested? It was bought on the 14th May from Cardiff Camera Centre so still has 11 months warranty remaining and looks like new.

Cheers
Steve

I'd love to, but I'd then need to buy a Sony NEX camera to use it on and I really don't need another camera!! lol

TBH when it was first announced I thought "what the hell's this for?" Slower than most of the other primes, a funny focal length, and it looked too big.

Then I saw one and it's not as big as I assumed (although it's not tiny either!), realised f2.8 isn't that slow, and 30mm would fill the gap perfectly between the 20mm and 45mm primes, so along with the 14mm makes a great little set.

Then I used it and discovered it's as sharp as a knife, focuses closer than stated (IMHO), and it was just over £130, which is as cheap as chips for a well made prime.

That price was on Amazon, it seems to fluctuate daily, but not by much. Hope you enjoy it if you go for one! :)

These two Siggy lenses are getting rave reviews and the price seems to be very attractive. They seem to make more sense on Nex than MFT as the former seems to be lacking compact-ish primes and the latter is quite well served.

They are "only" f2.8 though... I suppose we're getting a little spoilt these days.

I'm thinking about this lens at the moment?? Is it a good one as ill already have the 18-55 mm sony lens as well as the 50mm Sony prime lens
