Sigma 35mm 1.4

I think I'll hold on too

really liking the sound of this lens atm, and have the money to go ... but if it's not available in top shops, then I am wary about so-so shops claiming they do have it in stock.

End of Feb it is so ...

DR and panamoz have both quoted early to mid feb to me over the last few days, so fingers crossed.
 
Panamoz told me they haven't got a time for stock and DR won't price match and makes them not far off £150 more than Panamoz.
 
Damn... Thats not good news as i paid for mine 2 weeks ago and panamoz is saying that they dont know anything. I dont want to wait that long and I'm worried that they will ask me for more money as the price went significantly higher. I paid £483 via bank transfer and prices starts from £600 (also from hong kong shop). I was split between buying tamron 24-70 or that sigma. Price of tamron has settle long time ago and its in stock. Sigma on the other hand is a mystery. What should I do now? I need any of these lenses and it looks like I wont get Sigma fast but like the price I paid :(
 
Price appears to be still £502 at Panamoz before BT. If I could find someone who'd guarantee stock soon and at that price, I'd jump at it.

Surely there must be more suppliers from abroad...

Got you. I actually may just order from Panamoz and bide my time. Lets face it, no one else is going to be cheaper!
 
This lens looks to be a stunner. Im just waiting on stock coming back in at panamoz.
 
You'll be waiting still, nowhere seems to know exactly when they'll have it in stock.

Couldn't find the lens on their own site, only on Amazon uk.

Well ... I just pulled the trigger. Though it was £799... Also ordered an 85mm 1.8G today.

Better hope my 70-200 VRII sells soon :/

That 35mm must be one hell of a lens if youre selling your 70-200mm VRII
 
I'm not selling that for the 35 :D I'm selling that for an 85mm and hoping to get the 200mm micro soon [was going to buy the 85 1.4G but after looking to DXO mark, the 1.8G beats it in every way bar that 2/3 stop of light] - what I've saved there pays for the 35 ;)

For general use the 70-200 is just wearing me down, having it in the bag, not using it near enough - with my dodgy back. I hate to let it go, but for now, it has to.

Amazon.co.uk have them in stock £759.99... tempting...
 
Oooh, seems I spent £100 too much then ... oh well. Still saved on the 85mm.
 
Well, I emailed carmarthen cameras today, because the track number they issued to me was not recognised on the Fed-ex web site. I also pointed out to them that their price was £100 more than some other UK sites. Their response claimed that they were one of very few with actual stock, and that mine was on it's way, they would check Fed ex ... never got back to me after that though. Funnily enough, their price is now £40 less than what I paid! grrr

Send it back under the DRS mate, perfectly entitled to with no questions asked, either that or tell camarthen youre sending it back but would consider keeping if they price match.
 
I might just threaten to do that, see what they come back with! But knowing me, I'll probably just chalk it down to a be-more-careful next time. I was a little eager on this one.
 
One of my Canon using friends now has the Sigma 35mm - he loves it and says its the sharpest of all his lens.

I've been looking about on other sites, still not available on most. And no cheaper than I paid. For example, microglobe, who have been mentioned on here as being good for pricing many times, have the Nikon version at £799, whenever it is actually available. They have the canon version in stock for £779.

I should probably just let the price I paid go, so long as it's perfect, no issues, when it arrives - which I would love to be tomorrow :)

Clifton Cameras sell both varieties, with both in stock (I believe) for £699 (where I got mine), and are official Signa stockists.

Import price is around £500-550 but absolutely no UK warranty (Sigma are very careful on this). Registred mine with Sigma UK online, and got confirmation of my 3yr warranty a few days later.
So for me, the extra money for 3yrs warranty was worth it.
 
Yes, but its only worth it if you keep it for the 3 years, because as far as I know it's non transferable?

I haven't had a good play with it yet, but I can say it is a beauty. Feels really nice in the hand, nice and weighty without being heavy. It balances out nicely on the D800. One thing I have noticed - it's not weather sealed at the rear mount, but the hood seems to be. If you look at the pic above, the white marking on the hood itself, is on a rubber sealing. Odd they'd do that on the hood and not at the rear of the lens.

As ever with these things, it looks much nicer in the 'flesh' - pictures of lenses never really do them justice. But here is a size comparison, side by side with the 24-70 [at 70mm, so in between it's shortest and longest]


 
Haha, true, but I didn't have time to grab some decent shots [cat ran away from me] and I've to go do the school run. Will post some up later ;)
