Been offered this older lens by a friend which seems very cheap and in excellent condition , would this lens be worth £80

I have no personal experience but Google reveals some user reviews of copy to copy variants that mentioned front focusing 'issues,'

So on the surmise that you have trialled it optically and happy then @£80 seems like a no brainer

Avoid if it's the original version but grab it if it's the Mk 2. I had excellent results with a Mk 2 on my D7100.

I honestly can't remember why as it was so long ago; only that the original model had significant flaws that were corrected in the Mk2. The Mk3 was a disaster as Sigma added OIS which made the lens as large as most 70-200s and a similar price.

Pretty sure I had this one (in Nikon) and it made a great partner with a crop sensor. I sold it when I went FF.
