Anyone own or have used the sigma 50-150mm f2.8 EX DC APO OS HSM and if so what are your thoughts and opinions on the lens ?

Look out for a user named Artyman (Ken) as he went from a Sigma 150-500 to this and loves it. He gets some terriffic results from it and a 7D too. I'm sure he'd be happy to answer your questions.

I also am looking out for a 50-150 after missing out on a second hand one that I had found got sold the day before I went to buy it! :(

Thanks modchild. It certainly gets excellent reviews but it's always good to get opinions from people who use it regularly in real world situations :)

I have the original version (without OS), and it's an excellent lens. The new OS version is supposed to be even better, but is nearly twice as heavy and a lot bigger, which was enough to put me off.

Yes that's pretty much what the reviews say. TBH the size and weight don't bother me too much as long as the IQ is good :)

Cool, I've subscribed to this thread as I was looking at these too. I have no plans to 'go full frame', despite getting the feeling that this is something everybody should be conscious of, or work towards... :D

Yes I can't see myself going full frame any time soon either can't afford it or at least I can't afford the glass to make full frame worthwhile:lol:

I have a 50mm f1.8G and was going to switch it for a 35mm, I felt the focal length would be more useful to me, but then I was struck by the thought - 'Wait! The 50 is FX, and 35 DX'

What?

yes but the 50mm fx lens still gives you a 75mm equivalent focal length on the dx body and the 35mm would give you a little over 50mm so it would still be slightly wider.

The 35mm G is one I've been looking at too. If I do get the 50-150 then I don't see the point in getting the 50mm 1.8 and having two lenses with the same focal range of 75mm. A 35 would give me near enough a 50mm equivalent on a crop

My point was that the 35mm won't work on that full frame body that I have no intention of buying, yet it still put me off it.. :D

:lol: what do you think of the d7k btw? I've pretty much decided this is the body I'm going to get.

It's an excellent camera. I didn't think there would be a huge difference moving up from a D5100, but it's a better body in almost every respect.

The only issue I have encountered seems to be when using two mis-matched SD cards, there seems to be certain situations that can cause problems, and I'm not sure exactly what situations... I lost a 16Gb card shortly after filling it. Completely dead.

I've read something about that probably on here. To be honest I was just skimming through the post and interpreted it as certain brands of cards rather than mis-matched cards - will teach me to read posts properly!! Might have to investigate more losing 16gb of images is a bit of a kick in teeth isn't it.

Well I've done it the lens should be with me towards the back end of next week :)

Mathers in Bolton. Cheapest UK one I could find @ 719
