sigma 50-500 vs 50-500 os version

has anyone got experience with both these lenses? just wondering if there's any great difference between them?
 
Not sure how much difference there is between them optically but having had the old 170-500 and the 150-500 OS, I can say that the OS version was far easier to use - mainly because the OS allows handholding; the weight of the lens alone is enough to make ME think twice about carrying it on the off chance, let alone a tripod as well!

mmmm this is the problem most my picture taking will be walking around its got that extra reach but if i find a tripods going to be needed as well its probably going to be more of a hinderence, wish i had the time for hide's and things.Might have to look at a 400mm
 
I've just bought a 50-500 non-OS after nearly two years of borrowing one for airshows... Yes if you're used to a kit lens then obviously it's going to be heavy to you but in honesty for a lens with such a good focal range it's a nice small package! My 120-300 weighs more and I'm used to carrying that around race tracks all day.

I've had a go with the newer 150-500 OS and the build quality feels a bit plasticy compared to the old one I've got.

Would you say it's worth the extra for the os? How does the non version perform without? I don't miss it on my 70-200 L at all but it is shorter

I have the non OS bigma and in the right conditions it's stunning :)

I can't really comment on the OS system as I didn't use it enough too see if it had any effect. I can say however I don't think not having it has hampered me!

I have had the old version and currently have the newer OS. IQ wise there is not much in it tbh apart from the fact the newer version can focus a lot closer, making it a quasi macro lens. The OS is very handy at times, especially for airshows where you need slow shutter speeds for prop planes and helicopters.

500mm 1/180th ... hard to do handheld without OS
