Hi there ive had this lens for about a year now and the auto focus doesnt seem to focus on what i want. When i am using it im finding it easier to just use manual resulting in alot of out of focus images. The focus dial on the top of the lens just goes from one end to the other for ages. I have experiemented with nearly every setting on the camera and lens but maybe im missing something or is their a fault with the lens. Im using a Canon EOS 7d which only about 6 months old. I will be great full for any help. Thanks

Are you using single focus point or auto focus points? If you don't tell the camera which focus point to use, it will use the one closest to the nearest point of focus. eg bird on branch, branch sticks out, camera focuses on branch not bird, hence bird soft and out of focus.

Other situation could be that you need to calibrate you lens to the camera body, sigma lenses are prone to this, especially with canon bodies.

If it is going from one end to the other then it isn't managing to grab any focus, not just misfocus. Could be a fault with either the camera or the lens, or even unreasonable expectations of the focus system, it need a decent contrast target with which to work.

A friend had focussing issues twice with his OS model, fixed by Sigma under warranty. As far as I know it wouldn't lock on focus but just kept hunting.
