for a few weeks now ive been wonderin whether or not to buy this lens, primarily it is going to be used for daytime nature/wildlife and sports photography and i would expect to use it mainly in the 150-500mm range however there is also the Sigma 150-500mm f5-6.3 APO DG OS HSM to consider too,at around 40% cheaper new i cant ignore this, though to be honest i will be looking for a near mint used one of either anyway.
to help me dedide im looking for opinions on the extra value of having the 50-500 against the 150-500,both in monitary and prectical value and usage.how good is the 50-500 in 50-200mm and overall is the 50-500 a good alround lens.

my camera though not partularly fast is a fujis5 pro to be upgraded later this year probably to a D7000 nikon

advise and pics please

i have had 2 150-500mm and both were very good, but i now have the 50-500mm os and its sharper wide open and the af is slightly faster,
was it worth £500 more probably not but would i go back, no chance, also i find it very good at 50mm and up.
but if you are thinking of getting the 50-500mm non os then maybe the os of the 150-500mm will be handy.

scottthehat...thanks for that bit of info and the images too which seem to show that both lenses produce the goods.even before your response i was more tempted by the 50-500,the fact you have found its a/f faster makes a difference for me too.

any more input appreciated especially from sports photographers too
