nice shots mike i love the cat, i have found the af to be more snappy than the 150-500mm and the os is better and its defo shaper at 500mm f6.3 imo,
not that the 150-500mm aint a cracking lens,

and the lens has a maximum magnification of 1:3.1 (at the focal length of 200mm) which is great, focuses as close as about 12 inches.

I had the old Bigma, and the shots I've seen from the new Bigma OS bear little resemblance to my experience of the lens. This one really came out of left-field, I'm amazed.

care to explain alittle more.

It's long-since gone so I've not exactly got images to hand, but my impression was it was a basically competant but 'flat' lens - that is to say, images lacked 'pop'. To me at least, the images posted here and elsewhere look more like those from premium lenses with nano-coatings.

oh rgiht ok, funny that i had a 150-500mm in pentax mount that was flat and soft(sigma replacd it)

hmmm, I think I've found something to start saving for again!

I've been stuck choosing between the 120-300, 120-400, 150-500, or the 50-500.

Only thing is I have a Tokina 50-135 so I'd have a bit of duplication with the 50-500, but it's a cracking portrait/candid lens so I'll still hang onto that

hi simon i was looking at the 120-300mm but it has no os(im sure it will soon) but if you can afford it go for the 50-500mm its great, go try before you buy,

Looks like a good lens for the money.

I have been thinking about the 50-500 or the 150 - 500 for a long time now...
