Hello all
Im going to get one of these but was wondering if anyone knows the difference between the 2 in terms of the quality of photos taken with them.
Is the quality exactly the same and the only differnece is the 50 and 150mm ? If thats the case I will get the !50 as its obviously cheaper.
Thanks alot
Joe

i have had a couple 150-500mm and some have been duff, the last one was great but need stopping down to f8 at 500mm to get sharp images,so need good light, af speed

Maybe it's the downsizing for web but I'm struggling to see any sharpness in the above shots?

Ye think im with you there, i know there not gonna be as sharp as something like a 70-200 but wouldn't really describe them as sharp.

EDIT: examples just posted are alot better much sharper.

I have the 50-500 for my Canon and its great in my sons words "its the biz". I do find it a bit heavy so use a monopod on a waist strap most of the time.I was advised before I bought it that it has better quality glass than the other model because of its range. Perhaps thats why they've stopped making them now. At the 500 end F10 seems to be its sweet point. But Ive had no probs on other settings. The birds in my gallery were taken with it.

ah! lots better thanks!

I have been researching the 150-500 against competitors for some time now & I bought one today!

I've seen enough really good sharp shots in various places on the web to convince me, that this lens is capable of delivering the goods, if used carefully. There is a very large thread on potn which I found useful as well as some info on here, particularly this http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showpost.php?p=2543974&postcount=7.

After a few quick shots today, in dim light, I can say I need to practice my 500mm technique, but I'm sure I'll crack it.

I don't have any hands on experience of the 50-500 I'm afraid but I'm happy with my choice so far ;)

BTW it is huge! I don't know whether you've seen one in the flesh yet but these are very very large lenses!

Took this with the 50-500 non os, 500mm at f6.3, dof is a bit shallow but I still like it. Clickable for larger on WAB site.
