Am I the only one who's noted that this is more expensive than Canon's own 50mm f/1.4?

I picked one up with my 5D back in April for £270.

Is there anything that is supposed to make it better than Canon's own version?

A.

It's out currently for Canon but Sigma won't confirm the date for either Sigma (??) or Nikon mounts. I had this on pre-order but in the end decided to upgrade my body and get the Nikon 1.8D instead.

The configuration of the elements (including an aspherical one) is meant to reduce vignetting and softness when shooting wide open. Additional coatings also reduce glare which I understand other 1.4s are a bit prone to at wider apertures. Sure it's going to be a great bit of kit, but early canon models sometimes suffered from front focusing issues.

It comprehensively out performs the canon at wide appears from all the reviews I've seen :)

seems like sigma might have actually made a decent lens here.
