Yes
who`s got one and what are your thoughts on them.actual pics would be nice.

thanks

I wish the blasted thing was smaller!

I had one and liked it on my 5D. It's focussing was highly unpredicatable on my 50D though.

And with much less icky spherical abberation.

I have one and I like it. I haven't had any focus issues at all and everything seems fine. I don't find it to be exceptionally sharp at f1.4 and my experience seems to match what reviews I've read say. I find it less sharp at f1.4 than my Siggy 30mm f1.4 and 20mm f1.8. It's still a great lens though.

I only have a free photobucket folder so I don't think you'll tell much from that. I could send you a RAW if you want. PM if you do.

If it helps at all this is a tight crop at f1.4.
My Canon 50mm was much softer wide open.

My Canon 50mm was much softer wide open.

It's not exactly difficult to be sharper than the Canon 50mm (f/1.4 OR f/1.8) wide open, heck, I'm pretty sure my kit lens was so.

The Sigma may not actually be any sharper per se, but the distinct lack of spherical abberation - thanks to an aspherical glass element - really helps give a much cleaner image. By f/2.8 the lens is already out resolving full frame sensors in the center, according to dpreview.

I've got one and love it.

Tried the Nikon offering and this was better.

Sharper centrally than the Nikon wide open and really only pixel peeping gives away the softness round the outside. Plus the central sharpness is the important bit, for me.:)

It is an excellent lens. I have owned the Canon 50 1.8, 1.4 and even the 1.2L and I have kept the Sigma.. that must say something. nothing wrong with the other lenses at all, in fact my wifre loves her 50mm f1.4 Canon and it is pretty good wide open but the Sigi has the edge, for me, over them all.

It is a great lens, it is large and heavy but it performs very well.

The build quality is very good also.

I know I'm out on a Sigma limb, but if I could only have one lens, this would be it.

I have the Sigma 50mm - I was in 2 minds to purchase the Canon version but having tested it the build quality from the lens was far from solid and the Sigma was way ahead. At 1.4 the Sigma was sharper and the bokeh was much more appealing..

Some shots for you..

I think most of these are around F2 - I shall try and find a 1.4 shortly..

Nice pics Martin. I am interested in this lens too - thinking of buying a DSLR soon and I love my Canon FD manual focus 50 1.4.

I would like sharpness wide open - but if that's in the centre only that doesn't bother me too much.

And according to your siggy, this is true:)

Almost, there are two kit zooms still in the box and I've also got the Sigma 28-70mm F2.8 EX DG Aspherical which is a very nice lens but it doesn't deserve a place in the sig :)

I just taken some at 1.4 - will post in a few minutes..

EDIT:

Ok, these are all at 1.4 - difficult to photograph kids at 1.4 but i tried my best :D

No sharpening on these - all taken with a 5D Mark II and a Canon 430 EX II with a lightSphere
