Sigma 50mm f/1.4 movement and noise when shaken?

Yes
I've just purchased a second hand Sigma and have noticed that when shaking it lightly, I can hear a glass to glass contact inside the lens, does this happen with anyone else's Sigma 50? The person who I bought it from told me I can send it back when I purchased it through Ebay if I had any problems, so it's not the end of the world but a little worrying.

Kind regards,
Chad

I wonder if it is a Sigma 'thing'.
Both my 19mm and 30mm Sigmas do this. Apparently it is normal for these two lenses (both f2.8 for Nex).

It sounds like a rattle, but goes away when they are attached and the camera is on.

Cant say I can recall that with my Sigma, but then I never shook it around.

I wouldn't be as concerned if it went away when attached but the noise is still there. Can't be healthy hearing glass hit together. I think I'm going to call up Sigma.

I have the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM and it doesn't do that.

"Glass on glass" sound would definitely worry me!

Here's a vid from the Huff which includes the sound the 30mm f2.8 makes...

BTW, I can't find any mention of the 50mm making any noise from any reviewers.

My 50mm f1.4 doesn't rattle.

I think only the new cheap prime f2.8's made for small sensors rattle, but not when powered up.

Thanks kendo1. The sound is still there when the camera is mounted. I just tried calling Sigma UK but their offices are closed, guess it's due to it being the holidays. The lens also seems to back focus, or front focus (not sure which way around they are. Either way, I can get it sharper in manual over the auto setting. I've tried micro adjusting but that only really works for close up shots, shots at a distance are even more out of focus. I know I bought it used so can't expect Sigma to do anything about it for free, the guy I bought it from stated that he got it under a year ago and a blank warranty card is still inside the carry case, any ideas on what Sigma will do for me in this circumstance?

At f1.4 it's best to use live view, the depth in focus is almost paper thin..
It's a delight at around f2 and works well on auto.

yeh, maybe that's just the reason, I think I've just found a sweet spot when micro adjusting. Seems okay. I guess wide aperture lenses are never really good at shooting at range when wide open. My Canon 1.8 could never seem to do it.

Here's the rattle people....o_O https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/21804765/Movie on 31-12-2013 at 14.06.mov

Yes. I've put mine up for sale as, as you know, I'm a Sony A7+manual lens shooter now but if you don't mind lugging a big fat bloated DSLR about the Sigma 50mm is a geat lens, as is their 85mm.

Seems to be knackered. Things can only get worse.
