Hello guys and girls.

Just after some advice re; aforementioned lens.

I'm tempted to buy second hand, as I just need this to plug a gap between a 17-70 and 200-400 for some work that will hopefully be coming my way. I think in time I would like the Nikon version but for now the Sigma will suffice.

So basically, what are people's thoughts on this lens? And also, will this fit my D700 without any issues? And D300 if I want to use it on that?

And finally.... anyone got/know of one for sale?

Check out the Tamron also, you may find it cheaper, I must stress I've not used either of the Sigma or the Tamron but I did once consider buying before I got the Nikon version. The choice seemed to come down to the faster af speed of the Sigma compared to the better optics of the Tamron
 
I have the mkII. stunning lens.
 
I use this Sigma 70-200 f2.8 HSM MKII on this photo. The reach is 200mm and is still decent. 70-135 range on this lens is the best in my eyes.

Yeah i got the non OS MKII version. the one you looking at is the OS version of the MKII.

I know my image is not the best example ever .........

I think MKII have EX label on the lens? Can someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Personally if i'm going to buy the Sigma OS version for £1000 i would either save a bit more for a second hand Nikon VR2 or just get the Nikon VR1 instead.

the Nikon VR1 is one cracking lens ........ for me the Nikon is better than the Sigma. Reason I've bought sigmna non OS MKII is because is cheap and i got it for £300 ish second hand and it does the dirty job for me lol.

OS in Sigma = to VR (Nikon) or IS (Canon). Is a good features to have it for hand held with slow shutter, but personally i don't really need it on the stuff i shoot ........
 
I use the non OS version of this lens on my D700 and find it to be superb in most situations.

Should be able to pick them up second hand pretty cheaply I should think.
 
Boom. Right, think i'll get one of those for the time being. Need one by Saturday ideally.
 
yeah thats the one. price is about right for a brand new. Also it will work on your camera unless you buy a canon mount then no it will not work lol.
