any opinions on this lens for motocross photography?
fast autofocus? good lens?
thanks

Super lens I had one and it does take some beating I now use the Tamron equivalent which is a tad slower focus but a lot sharper so swings n roundabouts

got problems with focus consistency on the HSM variant across the board, but a good copy is highly desirable.

Yep, fast autofocus, some softness issues but generally ok, on the expensive side if you're not going to use it much.

Researched this quite a bit last week - sharpest at 70mm, somewhat soft at 200mm. Prone to front focusing I think.

Sample variation is the main problem.

I sent my first one back. The second copy is very sharp at all focal lengths and has no focus problems. The focusing is quick and quiet and its good value.

One for sale on TP for a good price.

I love mine, although I had a front focussing issue with it and mine still isn't 100% brilliant on subject a long way away at 200mm. However, think my D200 might be a little out and the general consensus is that it's a brilliant alternative to the more expensive Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8. Will be renting the Nikon soon to test my D200 so will report back

I've got the MK I & I'm very happy with it :)

The majority of this lot were taken using a 30D with the Sigma.

It's just a straight dump from the card without throwing away the junk or any tweaking so should give you an idea of the hit-rate :)

Same here. I don't see why there is a MKII, as the MKI is lightning fast

buy it second hand.... then you get some sample photos BEFORE you buy, from that precise model, and it's a lot cheaper! If you're on nikon, there's two in the for sale forum right now I think...

I'm so pleased with mine (MK1 I think, dead fast AF and v sharp). It also performs great with the 1.4 and 2x sigma teleconverters if you ever feel like you need a bit more reach, albeit at the cost of a couple stops of light.

Im on a Sony camera, so that stuffs up the one's for sale:(
anybody selling a sony mount Sigma 70-200????:D

cheers for all the help, looks like a good alternative to the sony 70200G:lol:

yea i wouldnt mind it stan, but funds say different:'( haha

i got tamron 70-200, as per the previous post suggested. it's a superbly sharp lens. solid build quality. the problem is its motor, it's slow and noisy.
