Hi Peeps,

I`ve got a Sigma 70-200 2.8 and i`m using it with a D40x, i know there has been alot of people who have either got a sharp copy or soft copy and that generally speaking the lens is always soft at the 200mm end, i`ve done a couple of pictures below along with links to the 100% versions.

Now what do you think of these photos are they as sharp as i`m gonna get from this lens or could i be getting sharper? (which mean returning to sigma to which they`ll prob say nothing is wrong with it)

Exif data is a follows:
Duck: f7.1, 1/400, ISO 400, RAW, Focal Length 145mm
Gul: f7.1, 1/1250, ISO 400, RAW, Focal Length 120mm
Images have been lightly tweaked and sharpened in Photoshop.

They look sharp to me! I'd be chuffed with either of those to be honest (more than chuffed with the second  )!

And the 3rd pic, This one was shot at Focal Length 200mm, 1/640, f7.1 ISO 400, If i put a 1.4 Sigma Teleconverter on i find it just makes my images worse which make me wonder how other people manage to pull off great images using a 1.4 Teleconverter not forgetting the 2.0X Tele!!!

No cropping, no sharpening or tweaking straight out of camera be sure to look at the 100% versions of my pics:

They look pretty sharp to me too. Don't go looking for faults if there really isn't any as you can get obsesed. I have the older version I got it second hand from TP classifieds(first test of it), I've also used it with a 2x the results it gives are still usable.

You are comparing 3 photos, two of which have been tweeked and sharpened up against one that came straight out of the camera.

Well yeah i am, because i want to know what other people experience with this lens and am i getting the same results, i put the 3rd picture in there as a straight out of camera example, other pictures that i`ve seen taken with this lens are seriously sharp, mine is resonable but with a teleconverter its pants!!

I`m surprised, thought i would of had more comments about this lens and members experience with it, especially with the teleconverters.

Never mind eh.

im more than happy with mine and its sharpness but its a mk1 macro.

i used to have a 1.4x sigma t/c but i found it washed out the pics a touch, been meaning to try a kenco but havent got around to it.

WHy don't you post photos with the lens wide open?
That way we can be sure if the lens has problems or not! You shouldn't expect ultra sharp results at f/2.8 but it shouldn't be unusable either!

Are both of those straight out of the camera (i.e. no post processing/sharpening)?
