Hi All,
I've just upgraded to a Nikon D750 from a D7000 now i'm thinking of selling my sigma 70-200 to get a nikon 80-400 for wildlife and sports photography mainly motorsport (bikes). I would like your thoughts on this as I know the sigma is a fast lens but I could do with more reach from the lens. I have just posted some shots from Cadwell park bsb. I was also using a 1.4x with the sigma at this event. I think the nikon would give me the reach but its a slower lens. Any advice would very much be appreciated.

Also on the Nikon 80-400 does the d or g lens make any difference with the d750.

The new Nikon is supposed to be a very good lens. The original was supposed to be very slow to focus, so not sure which one your considering, I wouldn't change your current lens for the old one. Another thought is the Tamron and Sigma's 150-600 lenses if your looking at the old one and on a budget.

Another option is the old AFS Nikon 300mm and using a 1.4TC on it. I have had this lens and for me it was an excellent performer. They can be had for around £700 from HDEW > http://www.hdewcameras.co.uk/nikon-af-s-nikkor-300mm-f4d-if-ed-294-p.asp

There is also a newer 300mm f4 lens which takes all the current TC 1.4 1.7 etc.. well, and has VR which maybe a bonus over the old one. > http://www.hdewcameras.co.uk/nikon-af-s-nikkor-300mm-f4e-pf-ed-vr-3020-p.asp

Thanks for the feedback the Nikon 200-500 looks a good option.

Oh, now that has really p***ed me off. I bought a 80-400 just a couple of months ago for £2000 because I wanted a long telephoto zoom for wildlife and now Nikon are about to introduce the 200-500mm for half the price!!!! I am not a happy bunny.

What kind of image quality do you think the 200-500 will deliver, compared to the 80-400? Or to put it another way, why do you think it is half the price?

I hope you are right, I'm sure you are (he says, trying hard to convince himself that his purchase was wise). :) :)
