My recent post in the portrait section lead to comments about the lens front focussing, even though I had actually set it up on the D300s moving the focus point forward 15 out of 20.
I set the camera on a tripod aimed at at type on a cereal box, and autofocussed. I then switched to live view and zoomed right in and tried to improve on the focus manually. I tried this at various zooms and in all cases the autofocus was spot on.
So why was the lens front focussing? As I suspected I am pretty sure its my technique, what I did find is that the focus changes dramatically as the zoom is moved (obvious I suppose!) So what I think has happened is that after focussing I must have zoomed in or out to adjust the framing slightly - hence the slight mis focus!
Lesson learned, something else to practice and improve on!!!
