I was using my sigma in a poorly lit sports hall today and noticed what I thought were hot pixels, then noticed that they were not stationary, they seemed to be jittering around, I swapped lenses to check if it was the camera and they had gone, I put the Sigma back on and there they were, has anyone had this before or any idea what it might be?

I have no idea what that could be, but wonder if they show up in any photo's, or only through the viewfinder ?
 
Pixels are on the sensor and not the lens, therefore if they disappeared when you changed lenses and reappeared when you changed back that means the Sigma is at fault. Never heard of that type of fault with a lens before.
 
This isnt a problem with the lens, and the issue is quite common. Your camera will naturally develop hot pixels, but every time it is turned on and off the camera software maps them out (one pixel mapped out in say, 15 million will make no difference to the images!). Its likely that when you powered down to switch lenses, the software mapped out the hot pixels. This would result in them disappearing, or even possibly reappearing in a different place the next time you look. Low light will accentuate any hot pixels.

I wouldn't worry!

Thanks for the replies, when I swapped the lens back to the sigma the dots re appeared in as near as I could tell the same place which made me think it must be the lens, I have looked at some of the images from yesterday and they look fine (well as good as I get).
I will try it again tonight and see if it replicates then see if I can get an image if it does.

As Odd Jim predicted, when I swapped the lenses back last night the hot spots were gone :)
I guess this will not have and real affect on the quality of photo's as I can not see naything on the images from Sunday.
