Just got my grubby little mitts on a Sigma 70-200 OS. Spent a while trying to work out what was the best bet for me the Sigma or getting a second hand Canon Mk1 IS. Pulled the trigger on one of these and I am very pleased.

Focus adjustment is spot on for all my bodies and the autofocus and IS work superbly. Colours and contrast are very nice. It is razor sharp from F4 onwards but F2.8 although not as sharp is still very, very good.

So long as it keeps working as it is now, I doubt i will ever feel the need to change for the Canon.

If you are considering one of these, I wouldnt hesitate in recommending one!

Congratulations, excellent choice!

I got one when they first came out, loved it so much (my first 70-200) that I returned it and bought the 70-200 IS II instead. So I can say from experience that the Sigma is very close in IQ, especially in the center of the frame, and just a tad (but noticeably) slower in AF speed. Aside from that and the slightly better build quality of the IS II they are amazingly similar lenses and I would not feel like I was missing much at all if I had only the Sigma. I would certainly choose it over the 70-200 IS I, so good call there.

I have the mk2 non os version and of the same opinion, at f/4 its sharpe as a button any higher it slacks big time
