A while ago I bought a s/h sigma 70-200 f2.8 quite cheap (£185) as it wouldn't work on full frame. As I have a D300 this wasn't much of an issue for me and it's has been fantastic since. Lovely, lovely images and not too soft at f2.8 at all.

Now the bad news. All of a sudden though the mount has become loose. After reading horror stories of the whole front of the lens falling off (leaving the mount still on the tripod !) I took the little screws out and found the problem that the ribbon cable between the PCB and the contacts was tearing. The mount coming loose had obviously made the previous break that stopped it working in FX worse. Now it doesn't set aperture or AF :(

Now I can send it to Sigma no doubt, but I expect that's going to set me back over £200, so I was wondering if anyone knows of more reasonable lens repair shops ?

The other option is to find a bit of ribbon cable, a soldering iron and a 20 year old's pair of eyes.

ah, less than I was expecting. Cheers for the heads up Paul.

Still, if anyone knows of an alternative...
