Hi!

I know both these lenses don't come with stabilisation but I'm fairly steady handed and don't see the need to have it. Plus i have a specific amount of free money with which to purchase both a "pro" lens and an event printer and buying the OS version of the Siggy would take me about 3-400 over. Not a massive amount I guess in the long run but initially the straw that breaks the proverbial and I'm impatient! This will eventually (well in about 3-4 months) become a backup to either the OS or the VR.

Which, in my situation, would you go for?

Hoping to hear from others who have owned one or ideally both of these lenses.

Cheers for you help,

Dean

I have the older sigma 70-200 f2.8 hsm and love it. I shoot from small boats a lot and haven't noticed a problem without the os. And photos are always super sharp at 2.8

I've not used the Nikon but I do have the Sigma HSM II and it is great. Focussing is very fast and it is very sharp wide open. It isn't as good as my old Canon 70-200L F4 IS was, but it's not too far off. The only thing I wish it had is weather sealing, apart from that it is the best lens I currently own.

Excellent. Looks like the siggys the one then. Kind of like the idea of a new and current lens anyhow.

Cheers guys :-)

I have the nikon 80-200 2.8 and i find it very sharp, focusses very quickly even in miserable light and its built like an absolute tank.
Im pretty sure i could use it as a ball and chain to break down doors and it would still work.

I can also vouch for the Sigma. Bought mine on a whim and have been extremely impressed with it. One of the few lenses that I've used that I'm 100% happy with wide open.

I have read good things about the Nikon as well though. Doesn't seem like you can go wrong either way.

Tamron 70-200 f2.8 also worth considering, supposed to be sharper then the Sigma though the AF is not as good.

Is the Bokeh on the Tamron not rubbish though?

Cheers for the opinions so far guys.
