Hi all, I recently sent my lens to sigma as the focusing was not accurate. They ended up sending it Japan to be repaired. I now have the lens back and the focusing is good however they mentioned that the images are soft especially at 200mm. Is it normal for this lens?

They mentioned it was soft? Tell them you want one thats not soft then the cheeky gits!

No its not normal. Mine is tack sharp.why didnt they tell you that when they still had it? More to the point, why didnt they fix it?

Think I'd be sending a rather angry email!

Was the lens new? Which 70-200 is it? I had the older non-OS HSM II one, and I also found it soft and it also had awful CA at 200mm, especially wide open.

Very odd that Sigma themselves would say it's soft though! That's them admitting their own lens is below par. It shouldn't be soft at 200mm. I sold mine in the end anyway.

It's a second hand lens. It's the Sigma 70-200 APO EX DG MACRO lens. I am surprised they did not sort it? That's why I asked if it was normal? I wonder if they only fixed the original problem...which they did!

This sounds really strange. I would send them an email asking why this wasn't fixed...

70-200 lenses tend not to be as sharp at 200 as they are at 70mm but it should not be soft. If it is soft then their is clearly something been done to make it like this and as such you should not accept the lens as being repaired.
