Does anyone have a user guide for this, or could tell me how to take macro shots with it?

It's not strictly a macro lens as it only goes to half life-lize....the macro tag is a bit of a marketing gimmick.

The minimum focus distance (sensor to subject) is 950mm. To engage this you need to put the slide switch in the macro position. The close focus will only work when the zoom is set between 200mm and 300mm...giving you a magnification of 0.35x to 0.5x

Hope that helps....

Thanks, set the lens around 250mm but when I try to take a photo of something about a foot away from the camera the lens just goes in and out and it doesnt take a photo. Should I have it on AF aswell?

If it's trying to focus by moving in and out then you might be too close
Try moving back and trying again

Also as CanonBob said, set the lens to macro mode when inbetween 200-300

You need to put it in macro mode first mate.
Whack it round to 200+ then flick the switch on the side

But the whole point is it magnifies the subject. Since the focal length is 200-300mm the field of view will be very small, meaning you just have to stand a bit further back but you will be able to focus on things that are much closer than normal.

My advise is put it in manual focus, zoom to 200+mm, put in it macro mode and then point at something and try and focus on something quite far away, then focus on closer things until you reach a point where the lens cant focus.......then you'll be much happier.

Thanks, I think I understand you. Would I not be able to use MF? These lenses are bloody heavy when your hand holding it for a shot!

You can use MF or AF - this lens is not very good at AF in low light though. Another thing to watch for is to make sure that the macro switch is off before zooming below 200!
