Sigma 70-300 ?

Hi!

So I am looking into getting a cheap telephoto zoom. How does the 70-300 compare with the Nikon 55-200 kit lens? Is the Sigma much better? It is in the local camera shop reduced by 50 euro cause of January sales.

I am not concerned with good low light performance. OS would be nice though. Build quality or weight is also not a big deal. I suppose IQ compared to a kit lens interests me. I will be using it for some portrait work (where I want more compressed look) and also a little bird photography. Nothing major just to amuse myself and to be used in the city and gardens and not over very long distances. I have a crop body Nikon.

I have the Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO DG Macro and also the NIKON 55-200. i find that the Nikon is the sharper of the 2 but you don't get the reach of the Sigma. I would say that the Nikon is faster to focus as well and the Sigma is a bit noisy!
