sigma 70-300mm - any good?

Hi, come into a little extra cash and wanted to replace my nikon 70-200mm which was broken. Want to upgrade a little with extra length but don't know if the sigma range is worth chasing. The price is outstanding at a little over £100 and would like any idea if this is worth it. Thanks for any advice

I had one of the cheap sigma 70-300's. Personally i didnt think it was amazing..that was a couple of years ago now so they may of come on abit now? if it was me personally id have the canon equiv. or nikon in your case!

I have used the sigma 70-300 apo for a while now, it does do a fairly good job and I cant think of anything better without spending more and more cash. Do go for the apo version though.

Thanks for the advice, but what is the difference between the apo version and the ordinary version?

the apo has sld glass which is special low dispersion glass. It helps to improve the control of chromatic abberation (purple fringing). I have hardly ever seen it appear in my pics. Also helps improve resolution as well.
