has anyone got this lens?

looking for any reviews, im considering buying it from Jessops, £89. f4-5.6, looking to use it for portraits / weddings amongst other things. Would be using it with my Canon 400d, also thinking of buying a 500d body as a 2nd unit just now.

Thoughts everyone??

If you can afford a wee bit more try to get the APO version.
Also if you get the 500D use the 400D as a backup body

Agreed, the standard one is a little well...not very good we'll say! But the APO one is well worth if it if you get a sharp one ;)

I personally would buy the non APO one as you will likely become frustrated with the results.

I had the APO version for about 12 months and was happy with the results if the light was good.

I bought one with Sony mount last week for just under £70.

So far, so good! Not amazing sharpness at the long end but it's fine. 70-300mm is a handy range, and it does 1:2 "macro" at 300mm which is great if you're on a budget as it doesn't obscure the on-board flash!
Zoom and Manual focus rings are both very comfortable and controlable.

For the price, I really can't complain

I had the APO version and its not bad at all for the price, over 250mm and it can get a little soft but its more than usuable in good light, I've use mine for football matches and motor sport and had some good results.

I use it a lot for football. In the right conditions it can get some decent results.

I had this lens and it was ok optically but what hacked me off and why I got rid of it was the very stiff zoom ring that made it almost unusable for sports that is one of my main areas
