sigma 70-300mm lens for canon 350d?

just bought the sigma lens was told it will work on my canon 350d but just keep getting error99 anybody any ideas is there a way it should be setup

any comment would be much appreciated

i have no idea but the usual thing i hear on this forum when this topic pops up is change or just ake on then on again the lenses, cf card, battery

Is it a new lens or secondhand?

Older Sigmas fit but sometimes don't work without rechipping them (cost approx £ 70).

Err99 is a catch all error code. I would try cleaning the pins on the body / lens connection.

If new, take back to shop.
If used but bought from shop, take it back
If used but bought from private seller, you can ask them about it but its buyer beware.

yes its a general error code for nothing that has its own error code.
clean the contact etc as suggest above.
£70 is not worth getting the lens rechipped - not that lens as the APO variants can be had for not much more brand new.
