I currently own a Nikon 70-300 VRII lens as my longest lens, however since getting my 18-200, I'm not feeling the need to use it as much.

I'm being offered a Sigma 80-400 OS for £275, which is tempting me on the basis it's offering far more reach therefore may get more use. However having had a brief play about with it, its heavy and huge in comparison.

I'd love to know if anyone has an opinion on the Sigma lens, or on the comparison between the 2?

The sigma 80-400mm ain't a bad lens, in good light you'll get some cracking shots as long as you have the right camera setting. Autofocus ain't lightning quick and performance drops off when the light conditions are grey / overcast , but it you work within its limitations it a good lens to start with although several generations old. The paint work may chip or discolour but it does effect performance. Not sure what the current used prices for this lens are, but a friends been using his for ages and taken some fantastic shots with the aid of good light.
