Sigma 85 1.4 and Sigma 50 1.4??

I haven't yet used either.. but I want the 85mm, thinking it would be a perfect counterpart to the 30mm on a crop sensor.
Take a look at the shots you've already taken and would like to take again in the future, are they generally closer to 50mm or 85mm? It's not about whether it's better for the camera (it doesn't care), it's about whether it's right for you with that camera. And we're not you.

I have both and they're both good lenses IMVHO.
I think that the 85 is very probably a little sharper wide open and of course it's bigger and heavier then the 50mm. If you're choosing between the two I suppose it comes down to how important the three big factors are...
They give a different FoV.
The 85mm is bigger.
The 85mm is sharper wide open, IMVHO, although the 50mm is no slouch in this respect.

In my personal experience:
Sigma 85: better wide open - sharper, much better corner sharpness, better colour and contrast.
Sigma 50: better closer focussing distance, soft corners - but can be used for creative effect, i like the dreaminess quality to the lens.
Both lenses have buttery smooth bokeh, almost identical build and the differences between the two in centre sharpness terms is pretty negligible by 2 - 2.8
In my own experience, AF is more accurate on the 85, especially at closer focussing distances wide open, although the AF on the 50 might be a smidgen faster, there isn't much in it though.
Personally, now I've done the change i actually think the 35 1.4, 85mm 1.4 and 135 f/2 lenses are a better combo than the 50 and 85.
I think the Sigma 50 is a great lens, the 85 is better (imo) but the difference between the two quite small optically and in focal length terms. there might not be enough difference to justify having the two so opt for whichever one works for you.
