Sigma Apo 500mm f7.2 NIKON

Hi I was just wondering if anybody had had any experience with the above lens. Are they worth considering as they seem to cheap to be true ?

It seems to have quite mixed reviews. I know its not going to be fantastically sharp but would rather save for something better if its not suitable for bird shots at my local nature reserve
