Pre K-7 Pentax cameras are not the quickest to AF anyway but I find it hunts a bit more with the converters on (especially the 2x). Depends what you want to use the combo for really.
im thinking of getting the lens for wedding work and some portrait stuff, although my canon 24-70 would be better for portraits. I want to think about other future possibilities too so I can shoot wildlife here and when I goto Africa next year.

The autofocus will slow down alot, but could be ok for wildlife, the 70-200mm f2.8 with either a 1.4x or 2x TC is a cheaper alternative to expensive long zooms, although you lose detail with a 2x TC. The TC's are really designed for the fast primes and not zooms as they tend to be hit less on IQ's and Autofocus speed. I prefer the images of 1.4x TC on my canon 300mm f4 than with my canon 70-200mm f2.8, haven't tried a 2x TC yet, but might get on for my 300mm f2.8, just to see how it performs, but most people don't like the 2x TC, apart from wildlife togs on the faster primes.
I'm very pleased with the canon 70-200mm f2.8 on it's own, great lens, the sigma has been reviewed to give similar or just below the performance of the canon, down side is no IS on the sigma, which you might find a useful to have for weddings
