hi everyone,am I the only one who thinks the Quattro is a tiny bit disappointing...ive downloaded most of the raw files off the web and none of them seem to have the pop and micro contrast of the dp2 Merrill and dp 3...I was tempted to get it but I think I will just wait until canon announcement in September..sigma Im disappointed I wanted that pop that wow factor but im afraid it isn't there ...and as for sigma photo pro ,why don't you get someone to program the thing better ,is still sluggish ,it still crashes and its just not polished enough ....really disappointed....yes I know the battery life is better and I know the camera is faster but it hasn't got the pop the wow factor
 
The Quattro went up against the 5D MK III and a top lens managed to beat it for detail in a review. The software is indeed terrible and reds look to be off, maybe a bug in the software? I wouldn't base all my views on downloaded RAWs from manufacturers and buggy software. Certainly initial reports I've read are saying it's look is more like a traditional Bayer filter which is odd considering the Foveon was the Sigma unique selling point for the Merrills.

that is my thought bayer like filter..the tree details are not like the Merrill cameras..and even if they fix the software I don't think its goin to make any difference....it seems like a backward step to me ..maybe it was cheaper to produce for sigma and the quality has suffered
 
I would guess that it is early days. The Quattro models on display a few months agio seemed to be prelimninary models - I don't recall any of the reports actually saying that they worked.

The Merrills are a very hard act to follow in terms of 'real' resolution.

I would be inclined to wait before passing judgement. While Sigma are a bit eccentric even they'd be mad if the launched the new sensor without it offering some tangible advantage over the previous generation,
 
I think there has been a compromise when they have made it...some people are saying the colour on the q is better,,that is all good and well but the reason I got the merrills was for that foveon look and the q to me hasn't got it
 
isnt it a 20 >5 > 5 resolution stack?
so there is more bayer like process going on now :/
