Has anyone here used this lens? I was thinking of getting the Well used Canon 300 2.8 but the price and condition has put me off.

I currently own the Canon 300 f4 and would like to know if you guys think the Sigma 300 would be a step up in terms of sharpness and AF. I'll be using it mainly to shoot footy and would like the 2.8 for better subject isolation and also the extra stop to help me out in bad light.

ps if you have any sample shots of fast action taken with the Sigma i'd love to see em:thumbs:

Have tried both & decided I would wait until I can afford a S/H Canon. Although good the Canon is considerably better.
 
Hi Phil

I have used both entensively and can't really fault either.I do slightly prefer the images from the Canon 300 F4 though.The Sigma works well with a 1.4 tcon and ok with a 2X.I don't think you would be disappointed with the Sigma.It all boils down to if you need the F2.8.If you do you have no choice but to get the Sigma(or the Canon).
If you don't like the AF or sharpness of the Canon f4 you need to go for the Canon F2.8.

If you do not REALLY need the 2.8 then stay with the Canon f4. The Sigma was not as sharp as I wanted it to be under f3.5 whereas the Canon was sharp at f4.
