Hi guys im think about getting the :-

Sigma F4-6.3 APO DG HSM Optical Stabilised lens for Canon Full Frame and Digital APS-C SLR Cameras (50-500 mm)

Does anyone use this lens? If so what are your thoughts on it?

Cheers,

Frey.

Never had one but I know several people who love the Bigma. Even know one lady Xie rates it over the Canon 100 - 400 L. I've seen some superbly sharp images from this lens.

I got the 150-500 OS and am happy with it,a lot of people swear by the 50-500 (Bigma)
I did a lot of reading before getting my lens, the only reason I didn't get the Bigma was the extra weight.
Basically reading what a pro said the canon zoom at 400 was starting to lose resolution, but the sigma 500 dropped back to 450 was slightly better ,but that was just one tester, but it was good enough for me.
So if you can drop back to 470 and crop a little you should be OK.

:whistling::tumbleweed: Some one will be along shortly to shoot me down.

I've had the 150-500 OS for a few months and I love it. I even decided it was better overall than the Canon 100-400 L, so kept the Sigma and sold the Canon. I was going to get the 50-500 OS last year, but I borrowed a 100-400 at an airshow and was blown away by it. Wish I'd gone for the Sigma now instead though.

I use the 150-500mm all the time and it's great, you won't regret it. I use a nikon so can't compare to the 100-400 canon but the extra zoom is what I wanted, the weight is not bad for the size of lens: I would just go for it and enjoy!
