Has anyone had any experience with getting a Sigma lens repaired?
I've got a Sigma 120-300mm 2.8 which has one of the internal lens' floating about inside of it, preventing it from focusing.
Is it repairable?
Anyone have an idea of price?

Yes it should be repairable. Virtually anything is repairable, so long as the lens isn't so old that the manufacturers have stopped making spare parts.

Sigma UK have a service tariff on their website here. But those are just guideline prices and you'd need to send it in to them for an estimate.

Looks like it will be tariff 10 then. £60 per hour.
I'll get it sent off to them to see what they say.

They repaired my Sigma 10-20mm as it had a back focussing issue. They had to wait for a part from Japan, so it took a few days, however, it cost a mere £39.00 if i remember correctly. The info for repair is on their website.
 
Depends if it's the OS or the non-OS, and whether or not it needs parts - heard from Sigma last week that the non-OS 120-300 2.8 is no longer serviceable by them as they have run out of all spares, along with my (now unfortunately a large novelty paperweight) 100-300 F4.

I've filled out the form on the website and it says they will email it to me.
Any idea how long that will take?
I would've thought it would be instantly.

Excellent, they confirmed to me that those are still 100% supported, so you should be fine. I heard back within about half a day after filling in their online form, it still has to be read by people on the other end to confirm they can help, so give it a little time. ;) They're also pretty good on the phones too if you really can't wait.

Parcel force are saying the dimensions of the package are too large.

Best? Royal Mail Special Delivery. Tracked and fully insured.

And whoever is saying it's too big for ParcelForce is simply wrong, unless you've packed it in an extremely unconventional manner....

Considering the limits for Parcel Force are (off the top of my head) about 30kg and about 2 metres in each dimension, I would ask for a second opinion on that if I were you, unless your standard of packing goes far beyond the call of duty. :D

Other than Special Delivery (which is indeed superb), I'd only really recommend DPD, mostly due to the fact they are the only courier to never have failed to deliver something to me on time. Being able to track the van on a map is also something I will never grow tired of!

Absolutely. We use DPD and the service is definitely excellent. It's not infallible - when you're sending thousands of parcels a year you do get a few problems. But I think they're definitely better than the likes of UK Mail, DHL, etc. I think RMSD may be even more reliable, and of course they have the insurance and the money-back guarantee, but DPD's tracking and flexibility is definitely superior.

But as far as I'm aware you need an account - I don't think MOPs can just send stuff via DPD.
 
No problem with Royal special delivery and DPD in general. I did have one problem with DPD when I send my Nikon 28-70 f2.8 but thats due to abit poor packing from my side and a bit careless onthe driver's side too. Otherwise DPD is pretty good
 
Tend to get my lenses repaired at a local camera repair shop in Liverpool, although admittedly they are all out of warranty. Usually it takes a couple of weeks, but that depends on how long it takes them to obtain the spares. Obviously a courier does not come into. Different for flash units as they seem to be more specialist. They have to be send off.
 
Posted off to Sigma for repair through RMSD.
Waiting to hear back repair cost.

Just an update in case anyone else needs the info.
My lens has now been returned by Sigma.
Replace lens optic. Replace image stabiliser. Reset, check and Test. £300.
Lens was gone for just over a week.

After getting it back and doing an initial bit of testing, all I can say is that if I knew the lens was going to come back focusing as quickly as it does, I would probably have sent it in earlier.
A definite improvement on focus speed and focus lock than before I sent it away.
Overall a good service from Sigma and I would definitely use again.
