i have NO experience on EITHER ...so can state with impunity.....

the Nikon 70-300 VR has a mass following ...used about £300

Ermmm...

I have the apo sigma but I've no real experience of owt else so take this with a pinch of salt...

Pleased with the image quality, I occasionally get some nice sharp pics and tbh I'm quite rubbish!
Pleased with the macro
Not pleased with the auto focus -can be easily distracted and hunts quite a bit

Thanks ivandobski, basically wanting it for macro as a cheap alternative with extension tubes but then having a telephoto lens to use as well

And yardbent yes good price at and the sigma one is £319 in a shop in town

I'm not sure on its suitability for macro though.
