SIGMA OR TAMRON?

I've been looking for those lens as well. Still not decided which one I need/want, even still considering your 17-70:)
But after all that reviews I read about both - sigma and tamron - I decided that IF im gonna buy one, I will go for Tamron. Tamron's focus is faster, sharper and has extra at wide end. It is also a bit louder than Sigma, but I don't care about it. Sigma 18-50 has macro option (1:3) and its EX, so you get 3 years warranty in UK, campared to Tamron 1year. But for Sony dslrs, Tamron is stronger, I read a lot about focus motors going nuts after few months working on Sony, especially this 18-50 lens. Also lot of samples has softer left sides (no idea why..). There are also more samples that have some front/back focusing issues and have to be sent back for calibration. Few users complained about Tamron on Nikons for its softness, but most of them fixed it after recalibration, so not sure if its an genuine issue...

This is all I can say about them right now. If I had £320 I would go straight for Tamron.

One thing that might sway you is that Jessops will be selling off the Sigma lens at a reduced price, if they have it in stock - check prices for safety before hand though.

In store at the moment. The reduced prices aren't on the 'Net and theoretically ended last week. Try your local one, the Watford Jessops had a 18-50mm 2.8 in, but not sure what mount, or how much.

cheers folks....i've looked at the other thread also, and there seems to be a situation where both lens have their plus and minus points.i have a couple of sigma EX lens already, and i cannot fault any of them for IQ and build finish, and if i get a good copy of the 18-50 :D,plus i like the fact you get a 3 year warranty with all UK sigma lens'.having said that,i'm also drawn to the tamron for slightly different reasons............

mmmmmm.....will have to think a little more, and read a little more
