Sigma OS

Just looking for some advise on using the Sigma OS functions.

I have the 70-200mm f2.8 and 150-500mm lenses both have the dual OS functions but reading the instructions doesn't help me understand which mode is best for what, I usually use these lenses for Motorsport, indoor events and next weekend an air show.

Could someone put it in layman terms?

"The OS switch has three positions; 'Off', '1' for stabilization in both axes, and '2' for stabilization in one axis only (for use when panning). Sigma warns OS should be switched off when the lens is used on a tripod."

Thanking you, spot on.


Knew it had to be switched off for a tripod, it causes vibration trying to stabilise vibration when there isn't any

Glad to help, I bought the 70-200 OS version last year and pondered on the same question when it came to using it the first few times.

Hi Chris

If you are panning at fast moving targets, try turning the OS/IS/VR off.

I do a bit of aviation photography and was :bang: trying to get sharp pictures. In desperation I turned it off and the results were nothing short of a revelation.
