Sent a lens back for a service to Sigma UK a couple of weeks ago.

Got an email back today saying their techs in the UK cannot fix it. They will send it back to Japan for the work. Turnaround approx 6-8 weeks.

Has anyone had any thing like this happen to them and do they keep you informed?

I have asked the same at Sigma UK but I just wanted some customers points of view/experiences on the matter.

I believe it's pretty standard practice for sigma to send the lenses back to Japan when the fix isn't possible with the limited stock / tech in the uk.

I always found it strange they wouldn't have the uk base up to a similar standard to Japan but I guess it's more cost effective for them to ship to Japan!

Or they order parts in, I guess depending on what cheaper. I've had parts for a 120-300 and 70-200 sent to the uk so I guess it was cheaper on shipping than sending them away?

From my understanding the sigma service dept is a fairly small unit.

They don't actively give you updates beyond giving an eta at the start, but you can ask them for an update and they're normally pretty good as responding.

I emailed them about 2 months ago, querying the cost on servicing my 12-24. They gave me a time frame of 6 weeks then, so I suppose that's the outside time frame so wisely they state that. If it's quicker, it's a bonus.

I need to send my Sigma 10-20 for repair it appears to have had a bump and it doesn't match up to the camera body like it should better get it sorted soon if it takes 6 weeks.

Happened to me with my 100-300 F4. They were great - lens was sent to japan, the entire front sub assembly was replaced and then they only charged me the initially quoted standard realignment charge despite the amount of work and parts clearly being more than that. Top marks for them - I did need to call them for updates on what was happening, but when I did they were friendly and efficient in looking up the details, so I've no problem with that. Took about 5 weeks in total.

Bit of an update I called at Sigma earlier and left my lens, it will need a new mount and they will check it's all OK before couriering it back to me in around ten days all for the very reasonable fee of £60. I think that's great and I look forward to using my lens on holiday in Norway very soon...

That's good news Kath....mine is still have a holiday in Japan.........

Sigma have massively exceeded my expectations by delivering my fixed lens back by courier on Thursday morning, I only dropped it off on Tuesday afternoon:love:

I will be sending a email to them to say thanks and I remain a huge Sigma fan
(all my regular use lenses are Sigma)

Just an update...

Sigma rang yesterday and my lens was delivered today. New zoom rollers and AF adjusted, full service.

Bang on with their 6-8 week turnaround if it needs to go back to Japan.

A quick test of my lens, shows it is better than ever.

All that for £35 plus £12p&p...............a bargain.

Just sent my 70-200 2.8 hsm non os to them this morning due to focus issues or lack of it more to the point so fingers crossed it ain't too bad

Well the lens got there before 1pm today rmsd had a phone call at 5pm found the problem the rear element had fallen loose and wouldn't focus on infinity gave it a clean all up leaving it on test tonight apparently. Ups back to me tomorrow so i should get it Monday at some point all for the bargain price of £59.99 and a turn around of a few days cant argue with that.
