I have my eye on 2 lenses at the moment that i am considering buying, but one thing has me puzzeled. What kind of fittings do they have on them. Will they be EF or EFS?
Ideally when buying new glass i want them to be EF incase in the future i replace my body with a body with a full frame sensor.

The lenses in question are the the Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 & the Tamron 70-200mm f2.8.

Thank you guys & gals.

Hi, Can't speak for the Tamron but I have the Sigma 17-50 f2.8 and it's a nice lens but think it's only for a APS-C lens.

If you read the following link it says
Note! Vignetting will occur if the lens is used with digital cameras with image sensors larger than APS-C size or 35mm SLR cameras.
The other point is that Simga is not licenced by Canon and so there is a risk that the electronic (i.e. the autfocus) may not be compatible with future Canon if they change it.
It's a risk but then balanced by the lens being cheaper

If I ever upgrade to a full frame (a pipe dream which will require a years of saving) I'll probably sell the Sigma lens with the camera and get something that in more in line with the with the 1.6 zoom factor that full frames don't have....

I'm not planning to replace my 60d any time soon. I'm just being a cheapskate. I think i'll still get those lenses. As right now i'm still learning & i think it would be insane to upgrade without a need to.

I have the Tamron 70-200 and it is EF fitting. I have used it happily on my 40D and also on my older Canon EOS 300v film body.

gembobs, how are you finding the 70-200? I've read reviews & they seem fairly positive. If its an EF then i don't really need to worry about that :)

Thank you very much both of you.

Sigma DC = APS-C.
Sigma DG = Full Frame.

Tamron DiII = APS-C.
Tamrom Di = Full Frame.

Unlike Canon EF-S lenses Sigma DC and Tamron DiII lenses can be mounted on full frame cameras but of course they may/will not cover the whole sensor, so pretty pointless really :D but you can fit them if you want.

Aidan I love it. It is very sharp, has nice bokeh (IMO), even against dodgy backgrounds (like trees or grass) it doesn't get overly scratchy or busy, for my uses the AF is fine (portrait type shots and wildlife mainly) and it works a treat with a Kenko Pro 300 1.4x DGX TC with no negligible loss of IQ or AF speed (again, IMO based on use, nothing scientific!), I do get mixed results when using it with my Kenko Pro 300 2x DG TC, but I haven't really played with this combo in anger. I have shot inside one church with it for a cousins christening, I don't recall the AF hunting, but it wasn't that dark (ISO 800 and f4 was giving me shutter speeds around 1/160 or 1/200 without flash)

Here are a few samples of mine. All have been processed and sharpening applied (set at 3 in DPP when converting from Raw to Jpeg, then in CS3, USM is set at amount: 50%, radius: 1 pixel, threshold: 0, and I will typically run it once or twice). The game is from 2010, the portraits from 2011; I haven't used this lens in anger much as my old job just got in the way and meant I barely pick my camera up from one year to the next, so I only have limited samples.

Gembobs, love those photos. i think i'll deffinately go with that lens. the only other alternative would be a Canon L & they are alot more expensive.
