looking at these 3 70-300mm sigma lenses as a bolt on for shots of the damsel fly on the pond or for a bit further reach at weddings, thoughts please? and is it worth the extra £30 for the APO?

also, considering the Tamron AF 70-300mm F4-5.6 Di LD Macro 1:2 Canon instead?

thoughts on these two please and which is worth the money, ideally something mid-range really as I don't feel i'll get the use out of it to warrant the Canon one as I have a 2.8 70-200 which does the job most of the time

thanks :D

The tamron has better macro performance and closer focusing distance than the sigma, the APO sigma can beat it on IQ but theres not a huge amount in it and the tamron can be picked up for silly money.

If I was shooting weddings and wanted more reach I would be splashing out a lot more and looking for something faster.

I've not used the Sigma but the Tamron isn't great at 300mm. Have you thought about trying a close up filter on your 70-200mm instead for the Damsel fly and cropping at weddings? I don't think the IQ would be worse given the quality of your Canon lens.

There is a new version of the Tamron which is supposed to be decent and has IS
