Iv`e had a Sigma 17-35 2.8-4 EX DG Aspherical lens offered me, second hand, mint condition, boxed, case, caps, (canon) I know the price is right, only question is, as anyone got one or owned one as I would welcome there opinions on the lens.
 
Dunno if I'd be interested in it for APS-C as a 12-24mm or 17-50mm f2.8 would make more sense.

I suppose it'd be ok on full frame or for someone who has APS-C and FF but for APS-C only it'd have to be really cheap for me to be interested.
 
I just got one for my 5d and although i bought it knowing the af was broke on it, I am very pleased with the quality of it. The edges are nice and sharp wide open. If its for your crop though as mentioned, perhaps its not the best choice but would be useful if intending to move to full frame. Just in the process of getting the af sorted and then I will be very happy.
 
With reference to the above thread, I was the person that owned the lens before I sold it to Andy. I used it on a 10d and I did really like it. My reason for sale was that I aquired a Canon 10-22, which for a crop body gives me a much better wide angle for landscapes. As andy says, it might be better suited for full frame, but it depends what you are looking for.
 
Yeah and as you mentioned the price was right I assume you mean bargain. So you certainly won't be disappointed. Out of interest, what price is it? Just wondering as then we could offer suggestions on alternatives in the price range.
 
She wants around £160, but reading your views I think I will give it a miss, I was not really looking for this type of lens to add to my bag just yet, but the condition and price made me interested, and as I am not thinking of changing my camera for a while I think I will turn my attentions back to a good macro.

Had one when I shot canon. On crop bodies it was pretty good. AF was fast and precise, build was good. A little soft in the corners wide open at 17mm but not horrific and certainly no worse than the corner softness on the Sigma 10-20mm.

We had to get a couple of ours re-chipped to work with anything above the old EOS D60 so might be worth actually making sure it works on more modern bodies. :)
