Hi All
Which would be better for taking pictures of birds. The sigma 50m - 500m f4 or the 150m - 500m f5. I usually like going up to the north Norfolk coast, with hopefully plenty of light!!

The 50-500 is f/4-6.3 and the 150-500 is f/5-6.3, neither is f/4 or f/5 respectively at their long ends.

What is your budget? The 50-500 is considered sharper, but the OS model is more expensive than the 150-500 OS (the older non-OS models can be had cheap used though).

Look into the 120-400mm. I have this and is amaxingly sharp, fast af and OS works very well. Much better optics than either lens that goes to 500mm and cheaper strange enough...

You've also got to take into account the weight of the lenses, both just under 2 kgs, but agree with squishy, if you have the budget, the 50-500mm f4-6.3 OS is the one to go for, but around the £1200 mark

The 50-500 OS is considered a tad sharper, but I used a 150-500 for three years and got some great shots with it. For birds longer is usually better, and whatever length it's never long enough

Will check 100-400 as well

The first one would be about 40 yds I would guess and the second at around 8 yds
