Silent(ish) waterproof trousers?

Trousers too noisy? Just shout at them... works for children and animals

The shooting (firearms) people have similar requirements so perhaps a look round a hunting/shooting/fishing type shop?

Paramo trousers are relatively quiet, compared to goretex or event, but you dont want to be sitting in a puddle in them as it'll come through the fabric. Alternatively do you really need waterproof, what about water-resistant soft-shell walking trousers?

If you go down the "shooter supplies" route you want stalking trousers rather than any old "country sports" gear. There's a lot to be said for tweed, I have some musto stalking overtrousers which are very quiet and capable of being worn as standalone pants. On the internet NOMAD gear has strong following and might be worth a look.

Ok, I'll give you a sensible comment.... the Soviet/Russian military used/use mountain gear made from a type of "duck cotton" - a really tight cotton weave thats waterproof and breathable and dries in minutes when the sun comes out. Much less high tech than gortex, also massively cheaper and silent.

Its known as "gorka", which means "hill" and have to say its very effective.

They do lots of variants, plain green and cammo of various colours/patterns.

Sounds like Ventile... apart from the price.

Perhaps not quite as good as Ventile, similar in concept though.

For cheap, casual use though its performance is stunning.

I use a couple of different sets for photography/dog walking etc.

Realtree are what I use when I go stalking ,I dare say there's better ,I find them bloody good

Thank you all. Had a quick look online and there's lot of camo gear out there! I've got couple of good gun shops nearby, they might have some in plain green, as I know camo gear is ground upon at certain shoots.

Oooooh you want to go to a shoot!

You never said that.

Tweeds all the way then.

If you think they frown on cammo, you should try showing up with a Winchester trench gun... completre with bayonet (very useful for not having to bend down to pick up your bird)
