Silver birch

To be honest, I think you already know the issues with this image.

The birch just blends in with the BG.
I do like the light, and the whispy stratus cloud.

Silver birch are beautiful in full foliage. I would love to see this shot again in the summer.

Yeah, I know what you mean. If I'd had my 35mm f/1.8 with me I might've been able to do something to seperate them more. I think the side-light on the trunk does a fair job of making it stand out, but it doesn't help the finer branches too much unfortunately.
 
I have to agree, would've looked for a little more separation. Could've gone down a little lower, a little closer and made use of the sky as the primary backdrop. You'd have your primary subject clear, the other trees would now be your secondary interest creating a more powerful composition.
