Finally getting back into the LF swing (pun intended), I noticed some play in the rear standard on my Sinar F2, after a successful 645 lens breakdown to clean some shutter blades, I decided to take apart the standard bit by bit as in its current form the 1-2mm play would cause chaos down the image taking workflow
Turns out ( any machinists correct me if I am wrong) Sinar either cheaped out on plastic bushings or thought no one would be using these cameras long enough for it to be an issue. The standard height adjustment clamp uses a small plastic bushing to press the screw against the standard leg
This had snapped in half. Using a intact one from the other standard I successfully fixed the play! Great, now I'm one standard bushing down, wait I have an old F standard and surprise suprise it uses the same clamping method. Surprise surprise this leads to similar problems as it is also snapped in two either through over zealous tightening of previous owner or myself
Does anyone know what I could use to replace it, I will check for spare bits on the world wide web. I fear buying another standard will just be a timebomb of another broken bushing
Reasons unbeknownst to me, Sinar ( or an owner ) also decided to use locking on the screws on the legs for reasons I cannot fathom
